Tips To Face Your Interviews

Going into a job interview can be a little bit daunting. The more you want to make a good impression and convey an accurate representation of yourself, the more nerve-wracking the situation can be! You want to come off as relaxed, cool and collected and also professional, friendly and intelligent all in one sit-down meeting. While this can be a bit anxiety-inducing, rest assured that there are some great ways to make sure you stay on top of your game and ace your next interview. Career Mind Mastery is a great course with lots of helpful tips and tricks to get you properly prepped for your next interview.

Some people will tell you to come off friendly and jovial while other advice suggests that you keep cool and never crack a smile. How do you know what is the best way to act on an interview? The bottom line is that you want to be aware of the situation and ready to adapt to the signals and cues you get from your potential employer. Go on as many interviews as you can – even the bad ones help you learn about yourself and adapt more readily to different situations. Practice makes perfect – very few people are naturally great at interviewing so unless you are one of those people, don’t turn down chances to keep getting better! In addition to practice, though, we’ve put together some helpful tips to keep in mind on your next interview.

1. Stay relaxed:
Even if this is your dream job, you want to stay calm and keep your cool. Take a few deep breaths before going in and remember to breathe in and out in between questions and responses. You can even try some relaxation techniques before you go into the interview – relaxing your muscles and reminding your mind to stay calm. These can be very helpful in any situation that could raise your heartbeat a bit. Try doing something you enjoy right before the interview so your mind is in a relaxed state – this could be taking a walk, talking to a friend, playing the guitar, etc.

2. Do your homework:
If you walk into the interview with a lot of background knowledge about the company and the person who is interviewing you, you’ll run a much smaller risk of being thrown off-guard. You will be able to answer questions with more confidence and also to ask more thoughtful and intelligent questions about the position. Your interviewer will notice your preparedness and will be impressed with it. Especially if they are interviewing a number of candidates for the job, your interest and engagement with the company prior to hire will be a key factor in giving you a boost over your competition. Find Me a Job is a great course that is full of interview tips and other lessons on researching job tracks and the companies behind them.

3. Tell the truth:
It’s always tempting to want to stand out or embellish your work history to make it sound a little more impressive, but this rarely ever works in your favor. If you think that you have gaps in your work history or skill set and want to appear more appealing, stretching the truth isn’t the answer. Be straightforward and tell your interviewer that you always wanted to chance to learn HTML or Powerpoint and would be excited to do so but aren’t currently familiar with the programs. They will respect your honesty and appreciate your willingness to learn. And if the lack of skill costs you the job, it wasn’t the right position for you anyway! Consider our course, Your Job Search Is a Spiritual Journey, which will keep you steady on the path to not just finding a job, but finding the exact right job for you.

4. Pay attention to body language:
Body language is one of the key factors in acing an interview. Make sure that you aren’t giving off negative signals with your body language – having your arms crossed over your chest or touching your face and neck are usually signs of disinterest or nervousness and they have been shown to turn people off. Try to keep your body language warm and engaged. Lean forward to express your interest, smile and maintain eye contact. These will help you to appear attentive and interested and also friendly.  The Secrets of Body Language will help you key into some of the more important cues you are giving and how to read other people’s body language more effectively.
